Q&A – Reading with no Money

I love reading, but don’t have a lot of money. What are some ways to read new books without having to buy them, but still support the authors?

It’s fantastic that you love to read, and that you want to support authors.

The easiest way to read new books and support authors is to join your local library. Libraries buy copies of books and there is a program through the Australian government where authors receive a payment for books that are in libraries. If your library doesn’t have a title that you want to read, you can request they get it in, or they can look it up and get an inter-library loan.

Another way is to look on Amazon.com for free download ebooks. Authors put their books up for free from time to time as a way of getting reviews and increasing their rankings with additional downloads.

Many publishers, authors, and book blogs, have competitions and giveaways where you can win books. Keep an eye out for these and enter them. I have read some amazing books this way, and discovered some that I may not have picked up if it wasn’t for the competition.

Other options include borrowing books from friends, finding your local Street Library, and asking for books as gifts for birthday & Christmas.

These are just a few ideas on how you can read new books without spending a lot of money. If you have some more ideas, please add them in the comments.
